America's Gothic House

I have always loved old buildings and the history behind them. The more history, the more inspiring.

I have family in Iowa and I always love shooting in the mid west. The buildings are still there and they are not covered up by new buildings surrounding them. It's almost like going back in time with some of the buildings I have seen...

We all know Grant Woods' historical take on the mid west in the 1930's

The building of this infamous photo is actually in Eldon, Iowa. My dad loves to just drive around so we got to stop at it for photos while we were in the area.

This Gothic window is the icon of mid west America during the depression. I don't think I know anyone that doesn't know this photo. Grant Wood was not necessarily liked by mid westerns when he painted this photo. They thought that it was derogatory and that Wood was insulting them. We know now that he was just making a statement, not an opinion. But it's interesting to hear that background story. The great painters are always ahead of their time and often disliked...

Enough of my history lesson...
I am glad I was able to get a shot of this house that I was really happy with.
